Then I went to the AVID Summer Institute. It was a good reminder why I need to do notes in my class, in addition to the fun, hands on stuff. I'm still trying to figure out exactly how I'm going to include the summary & questions in the composition book I get for TEEM, but I've seen a few examples online I'll try to replicate & modify as needed.
I've heard a lot of good quotes, but my favorite has been one I heard at AVID: "You can't do everything, so do 1 or 2 things well." It often feels like I am expected, either by others or myself, to learn to do everything right away. I'm only human, I can't do everything. So I'm going to focus on doing 1 or 2 things well. I just need to decide what those 1 or 2 things are, and quick. School starts in a week!
Bravo! First, congrats on taking the initiative to blog & share. Second, attending workshops are important, but only if the ideas assimilate into what already works for you. You are wise to focus on q or 2 things, but come back and reflect, adapt, & add too what already has proven to work for you....and by all means, keep blogging & sharing so we can learn from/with you.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I think I'm still struggling to figure out what works for me, and that can be such a challenge when I learn of new tips & strategies: I want to try it all to find something that works!
DeleteI'll definitely be back. I'm going to make it my goal to blog at least once a week to go over what I've done in class, what worked & what didn't.
I love AVID :) I was an elective teacher and coordinator for years and they really do have fabulous PD opportunities and resources!
ReplyDeleteIt was a lot of fun and informative! I was an AVID tutor before I did my student teaching, but somehow a lot of the info got lost in the transition.
